GMAT (Graduate Management Aptitude Test) scores are widely accepted by B Schools across the world- US UK INDIA CANADA SINGAPORE EUROPE etc- for admissions into the MBA and other Management programs. Having a great GMAT score definitely enhances the chances of acceptance into elite B schools.
The latest GMAT called the GMAT FOCUS edition has three sections:
1) Verbal section that includes Critical Reasoning and Reading Comprehension. The section has 23 questions to be completed in 45 minutes
2) Quantitative Reasoning includes major topics in arithmetic, algebra and statistics. Geometry is not a part of math in GMAT focus edition. The section has 21 questions to be done in 45 minutes
3) Data Insights section includes Data sufficiency, Graphics Interpretation, Table
Analysis, Two part analysis and multi source Reasoning. Hasc30 questions to be completed in 45 minutes.

When to write GMAT ?
The GMAT score is determined by the number of questions answered, whether the student answers the questions correctly or incorrectly, and the level of difficulty and other statistical characteristics of each question. The questions in an adaptive test are weighted according to their difficulty and other statistical properties and not according to their position in the test.
Ideally, the aspirant for business studies should have a work experience of approximately 3 to 4 years, as top colleges require the same. Since the Fall- intake in colleges is maximum and the first deadline for applications to the colleges in USA is normally in October, the GMAT Preparation should begin at-least five months prior to this. Some schools do have a Dec-January intake.
GMAT is a challenging but an interesting exam, which teaches many management skills such as time-management, stress management, strategy management etc. It is not just a test of English and math.
